Your library stays on your computer.

Media House is a media centre for files you already own. It does not have accounts, it does not have a server of ours, and it does not collect analytics. This page lists exactly what the app stores, what it sends and when, and what it never does.

What the app stores, and where

Everything Media House knows about your library lives in a data folder on your computer: the index of your files, posters and preview images it generates, favourites, scores, categories, genres, tags, markers, watch history, actor names detected from file names, actor photos, and your settings.

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Media House (the App Store version keeps it inside the app's sandbox container).
Windows: %APPDATA%\Media House.

If you turn on Keep organisation inside each folder, the app also writes a plain-text file named .mediahouse/library.json into each library folder so the same organisation follows the folder to another computer. Anyone who can open that folder can read that file. The option is off by default.

What leaves your computer, and only when you ask

The app contacts the internet only for the features below, and only with the minimum needed for each request. None of these requests include your name, your account, or a list of your files.

Actor photos. When photo lookup is on, the app searches Bing Images, Google Images or Wikipedia for a name detected in a file name. Only that name is sent. You can turn this off in Settings, or use the safe-search filter.
Film and series information. When online information is on, the app looks up a title (and year, if known) on Wikipedia, or on The Movie Database if you added your own TMDB key. Only the title and year are sent.
Subtitles. When you search for subtitles, the app sends the title, and for OpenSubtitles a hash of the file, to OpenSubtitles, Addic7ed and SubtitleCat.
Purchases. The App Store and Microsoft Store handle the subscription. Media House never sees your payment details; it only receives confirmation from the store that a subscription is active.

Each of those services has its own privacy policy that governs what they do with the request they receive.

Phone and TV access

If you turn on Phone & TV access, the app serves a web page on your own local network so other devices in your home can browse and play the library. It listens only on your network, it is protected by a PIN, and it is off by default. Nothing is relayed through the internet.

What the app never does

No accounts, no sign-in, no email collection.
No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports sent anywhere. A log file is kept locally in the data folder for your own troubleshooting; you can open or delete it from Settings.
No advertising, no tracking, no data sales.
No uploading of your videos, photos, thumbnails, or file names to any server.

App lock

The optional app lock stores your password only as a salted hash on your computer. There is no recovery. If the lock file is deleted or edited to get around the lock, the app erases its own library index and starts fresh; your video and photo files on disk are untouched.

Deleting your data

Settings → Danger zone → Erase everything removes the index, history, organisation, thumbnails, actor photos and settings, and returns the app to the welcome screen. Uninstalling the app and deleting the data folder does the same. Your media files are never deleted by either action.

Children

Media House is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.
